Wrong Return - Editing 4

The last bit of editing we had to do to our thriller opening was to shorten it as it was over 00:03:30 long and the maximum amount of time we that was allow is 00:02:30 to 00:03:00.
We had to cut down the speech with Lola (Angela) and Scarlet (PC Brown) as it was taking the most amount of time. We managed to get it to 00:02:30.
But...
It didn't look as great as it should off so I added some cross dissolves, when Scarlet (PC Brown) is saying the phone number to Lola (Angela) and also when Lola (Angela) was saying bye, as it didn't look necessary plus it adds to the effect of suspense.
The hardest bit of editing our thriller was the speech as it was hard to shorten it and have it still make sense to the audience. This part of the edit took us the longest as we wanted it to look as professional as possible.

Wrong Return - Editing 3

This is our final week for filming, so we chose your music which was, Long two note and Penumbra.
We cut the sound from some of the clips and placed other clips in front of them. We did this mainly with the speaking bit, where Angela was speaking with the police officer. We had the voice of the police officer  and the facial expression of Angela. It came out exactly how we visualised it. There are still a few tweaks and minor adjustments we need to make, for instance we need to include more changes from character to character, to see their reactions. Apart from that we are pleased with how it is looking so far.

Wrong Return - Editing 2

This week we cut the clips down form 00:04:30 to 00:03:10 but we still need to cut it down even more as we are over the time limit.
We had to decide between the whole group what we didn't really need in the opening, and also we made some clips shorter, this is good because this makes the audience disorientated if the clips change every second or two for the first 20 seconds, when Angela is in the woods.

Wrong Return - Choosing Fonts

The font we chose for our thriller opening is '1942 Type Writer'. We chose this because we thought it would most suit the genre and the effect of the film. We got the font from 'dafont.com' which is a website where you can get fonts which you don't have to pay for.
I think the font we chose is perfect for the effect of a thriller as is looks quite old and mysterious.

Wrong Return - Kevin Macloud Music

We used 'Long Two Note' and 'Penumbra' as our music for our Wrong Return opening sequence. We got our music from a website called 'kevinmacloud' which is a website for free music which doesn't have any copyright protection. On this website we looked at different types of genres of music  such as horror, suspenseful, mysterious, intense, dark and aggressive. We were searching for a song that would create a specific atmosphere that we wanted, so it would represent the video and show the audience what we wanted them to see.
The songs we used in the end were 'Penumbra' and 'Long Two Note'. 'Penumbra' is the song we used at the beginning of out thriller and it was quite a mysterious song. We wanted the song to show Lola's (Anglela's) fear and vulnerability. The second song we used was 'Long Two Note', we thought would work well with our thriller as it has a tempo which slowly intensifies. As a group we thought that this song correlated with our opening sequence perfectly, so we played it through out the most of our opening.

Wrong Return - Editing 1

The first day of editing we watched all of our clips and selected the best ones which sound good and the camera controls are good.
After we selected all the best clips we started putting it together without cropping the beginning or the end of it, just to see what we have and if we would need to re-film any extra clips.

We put all the clips in order and started to cut them down.
We tried to make the first couple of clips quite short as the part where Angela and the Police officer is speaking is roughly 00:01:40 long. This takes up most of our time as we need to get all of our clips in between 00:02:00 to 00:03:00.

When we started editing when Angela stands up, we tried to make those two clips look like one when she is touching her skirt at the bottom. We had to film her standing up roughly about 5 - 6 times so we had to make sure all her movement were the same. It was quite difficult to make those two clips look like one, but in the end we managed to make it work, and it looked really good.

Wrong Return - Filming Day 2

The second day we filmed the clips which are in the house, and the conversation between Angela and the Police Detective.

The carrot chopping scene was quite tedious as we wanted the shots to be perfect. Each different angle of that scene we filmed about 5 or 6 times. The lighting was crucial as there was a window behind the camera which on the door of the cupboard you could see a reflexion so we needed to hold up a dark coloured blanket to cover the light. By doing so we made the clip look better and it gave it a spine-chilling feel to it as it was quite dark.

The last scene of our opening is the kidnapper answering a call while looking at the pictures of Angela. For the ringtone of the phone we had to use one of our phones with the old ringtone because there wasn't anywhere where we could plug in the house phone. The sound for it i thought came out really well and our actor played the part well and in time with the ringtone.

I filmed Angela on the phone to the police officer, it was quite hard to walk backwards, down the hill, keep the camera steady and keep her in the middle of the frame as she kept on weaving and also slowing down and speeding up. But it is good that she done that as it adds to the effect of her being curious and worried about the conversation that they are having.

Wrong Return - Filming Day 1

Woods

On our first day of filming we all met up quite early as it was going to rain later on in the day.
We went to our location to film, we got out the equipment we needed set up everything, then double checked our camera angles and how we were going to film. while we were doing that the actress was getting ready and putting on her make up.

When we started shooting everything was going well apart from the weather... it started to rain and it was quite cold after just an hour of getting to our location.

We wanted to wrap everything up as quickly as possible so we could get out of the rain and cold. But we didn't want any of our shot to look bad, so we carried on filming for another couple of hours just so we could get the best possible shots we could. We filmed each take about 3 - 4 times, so we could have a choice on what looks best when editing and also when we edit we could make the audience feel as confused as the main character does by fast passed editing.

Wrong Return - Day Before Filming

The day before filming, I got every bit of our equipment ready and charged my camera.
I put everything into a bag and put it by the front door so i didn't forget to take anything with me when I left.
I also just double checked how to use the glide cam and made sure I knew all about it before using it, just so I didn't waste any day light and made sure I can set it up quickly just so nobody looses focus when I'm setting it up.
